A denture is a plate with false teeth attached to it, specially created to fit the exact shape and size of your mouth. The replacement teeth themselves can also be tailored to match any existing teeth, so your denture should look natural and feel comfortable. Dentures can be used to replace a few missing teeth, or a complete set, in which case, you'd have a denture to replace the missing teeth in your upper jaw, and one for your lower jaw. They can be made entirely of plastic, or from a mixture of metal and plastic, or from porcelain.
Denture Relining
Many people find the idea of dentures alarming, but today, they can be made to look and feel so natural, there's no need to worry. We're here to help, so if you'd like any advice on dentures, or how to look after them, please give us a call or arrange a visit.
If we need to remove any existing teeth before fitting dentures, we can offer you Immediate Dentures. These can be fitted straight away, as we can take an impression of your mouth a few weeks before your treatment and have your Immediate Dentures ready in the surgery, waiting for your visit. This means that you won't have to worry about being left with any gaps, whilst your mouth heals.
Over Denture
If you require a denture to replace a few missing teeth i.e. a partial denture, it'll be designed to clip into your mouth so it stays securely in place.
There are denture fixatives available from chemists if you're worried about your denture slipping or moving. However, your denture should fit securely on its own. If it feels loose, then please come in and see us as the shape of your mouth can gradually change over time.
