Chilwell dp are now offering individual Preventative Hygiene programmes offering
patients access to our hygienist.
|
Why visit
the Hygienist?
Hygienists are experts in looking after gums. They are trained to assess for the
risk of developing gum disease as well as giving you, the patient what we call "the
right skills, tools and techniques" to prevent and treat the disease at home as
much as you can. After all, as adults we only have one set of teeth so therefore
one chance at looking after them!

|
|
Gum Disease
and Smoking
Smokers may be up to SIX times more likely to develop gum disease than a non-smoker.
If you smoke you are more likely to lose a tooth or teeth than a non-smoker.
|
|
|
Gum Disease
and Heart Disease
People with heart disease are TWICE as likely to have gum disease and it can make
existing heart conditions worse. In some studies there has been a connection between
gum disease and stroke victims.
|
|
|
Gum Disease
and Diabetes
People with diabetes are more likely to have periodontal disease than people without
diabetes, probably because diabetics are more susceptible to contracting infections.
If you would like to take advantage of our new personal hygiene service please contact
reception.

Apologies
|
We would like to
offer our apologies at the amount of appointments that have had to be cancelled
over the past weeks. There has been quite a lot going on here at Chilwell dp.
Firstly Mandy our dental therapist is undergoing chemotherapy treatment and I’m
sure you will join us in wishing her a very speedy recovery. She will be working
limited hours over the coming months.
Secondly Dr Anna McDaid (nee Bennet) and Dr Sarah Smith are both expecting and will
be going on maternity leave April and July. They will be away from the practice
for approx 12 months.
We
would like to welcome Rachel one of our dental nurses back who is returning to us
after her maternity leave.
We
are currently looking at recruiting a new dentist who will be joining our team in
August as well as an additional hygienist. We would appreciate your understanding
during this transitional period and we apologise for any inconvenience caused with
the changing of appointments. We realize it is frustrating and we are doing our
best to minimise disruptions. Your patience and tolerance would be greatly appreciated.
|
We would like to wish all of our patients a very happy Easter. But don’t forget
those alternative Easter treats:
